Virgin Wood Type Font Backer Reward

Only 12 days left. We are nearly 50% funded with 328 fantastic backers and we have a funky fresh Wood Type Reward just waiting to get inked up and printed.

$500 – Gothic Bold RS 8 line 5A font by Virgin Wood Type
(8 line = 96pt or 1 1/3 inch / 5A = 120 characters + catchwords)
Generously donated by Geri McCormick, Owner VWT

Geri explains why she provided this handsome wood type to support the project, "Letterpress is about community whether you are young or old we are all members of the black art club. We do love to share stories but better than that is digging in and just getting inky. We all need more of Dicking around with the Daves in our lives. This film brings the wonder of knowing the Daves to people who might not have the opportunity to meet them and this goes for the rest of the cast of characters."

About Gothic Bold RS (reverse stress)
David Wolske, Letterpress Artist and author of Letterpress Daily, revived Gothic Bold RS by scanning a specimen from Rob Roy Kelly's American Wood Type: 1828–1900, drawing the vector letterforms, and making subtle modifications and corrected inconsistencies in the design. He also designed catchwords to match the style of the historic font.

The Virgin Wood Type Manufacturing Company has been carving end-grain maple into type since 2010 using an original American Wood Type Manufacturing Company pantograph to cut trees into letters and sell them to printers.

Geri McCormick and Matt Rieck of VWT are part of the 'Wood Type Family' with Scott of Moore Wood Type (Dad) and me. They are a vital component of the printing community, preserving letterpress one letter at a time. Thank you for everything you do!
